Oconee National Forest

Live in the Heart of the Oconee National Forest

The Oconee National Forest covers more than 115,000 acres of 8 counties in Central Georgia. With gently rolling hills, natural streams and a wealth of native wildlife, this is truly a land of exploration and family adventure.

The Oconee is known for great camping and hiking, as well as some of the best fishing in the region. There are a number of great trails through varying terrain, including several horseback riding trails and others that are open to ATVs and mountain bikes. The forest is also home to incredible history, including ancient Indian mounds and the site of Scull Shoals, a crumbling ghost town located just across the lake near Greensboro.
